Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt says the club’s plan to return to glory by 2028 is a “dream”.

    Speaking at a Champions for Children dinner, Butt told The Times: “If I’m being honest – and I don’t want to be blunt – it’s not going to happen.”

    “There’s still a long way to go to get there. What I feel is when people talk about getting to where they want to go, do they think the clubs are just going to sit around and do nothing? Each team is going to move forward as well.”

    “Newcastle, Liverpool will be better, (Manchester) City will be better for sure, Chelsea will be better, Arsenal is better every year, of course there are a lot of smaller clubs as well. The most important thing is to start right and hopefully the season will end because it was a disaster.”

    “And hopefully we’ll have some plans for the stadium, bringing in new players and giving Ruben Amorim the right tools to try and at least build a good team to compete.”
